Insta360 camera setup

About 10 minutes, once. After this the app starts and stops your Insta360 for you, saves your speed and position into the video, and tells you where each tack and mark rounding is in the footage.

Open the setup wizard

The wizard checks each step live on your phone and tells you what to fix. This page explains the same steps in more detail.

What you need
Nothing is uploaded anywhere. The Camera Bridge runs on your phone and only talks to your camera and to this app on the same phone.
1

Install the Camera Bridge

  1. Save the .apk file on your phone (from the message or the drive link you were sent).
  2. Tap the file. If Android says it blocks installs from this source, tap Settings and switch on Allow from this source, then go back.
  3. Tap Install. If Play Protect asks to scan the app, choose Install anyway.
  4. Open Marena Camera Bridge. Allow Nearby devices (Bluetooth) and Notifications.
The notification keeps the bridge running while you sail. Do not swipe it away.
2

Connect your camera in the Camera Bridge

  1. Switch the camera on and keep it close to the phone.
  2. In the Camera Bridge tap Scan and connect and choose your camera from the list.
  3. If the camera asks you to confirm, accept on the camera.
  4. The bridge should show the camera name, battery and card space.
Close the Insta360 app first. A camera can only talk to one app at a time.
4

Test it before race day

  1. In the setup wizard tap Record 3 seconds (or use Start recording in the Insta360 controls). The camera should beep and the pill at the top turns red.
  2. The wizard stops it for you. If you started it by hand, wait about 5 seconds, then tap Stop recording.
  3. Check the clip on the camera or in the Insta360 app.
5

On race day

  • Switch the camera on, open the Camera Bridge once (it connects to the last camera), then open the Marena app.
  • In the Insta360 controls switch on Start sequence. The camera starts about 3 minutes before the gun and stops after you finish, using your before and after times.
  • You can start or stop by hand at any time. A manual stop is respected until the condition changes.
  • Tacks, gybes, marks, the gun and the finish are logged as times. They do not appear inside the video file.
6

After the session

Open the session in the app and look at Insta360 clips. Each event shows where it is in the video, for example Tack 3 – video 00:12:40. Open the video in the Insta360 app or any player and jump to that time. Positions are accurate to about a second.

If something is not working
The app says it cannot reach the bridge

Open the Camera Bridge app so it is running (its notification should be showing). Turn off battery saving for the Camera Bridge (Settings → Apps → Camera Bridge → Battery → Unrestricted). Then open the setup wizard to check again.

Chrome asked about local network access and I tapped Block

In Chrome tap the lock icon in the address bar → Permissions → allow Local network access (or Nearby devices) for this site, then reload.

The bridge says the token is wrong

Copy the token again from the Camera Bridge and paste it in the app. If you tapped Regenerate in the bridge, the old token stops working.

The bridge cannot find or connect to my camera

Switch the camera off and on, keep it within a metre of the phone, and close the Insta360 app. Another phone or app that is connected to the camera will block it.

Recording stops by itself

Check the camera battery and card space in the app. Long recordings get hot: the camera stops itself when it is too warm, the card is full, or the battery is low.

The video positions look a few seconds off

Positions are accurate to about a second. If the camera was already recording when the app connected, they can be off by a few seconds.

Will it use my mobile data?

No. The app and the bridge talk to each other inside your phone. Forecasts and the rest of Marena use data as before.
